communazimonedula:
Just put my laundry in the machines for averyearly morning wash, and I think I managed to get bitten by a mosquito despite spending a total of fifteen seconds outside. Currently debating whether I should go down to the beach and have a bath because:
1. It’s fully light outside, not to mention…
AND back! It took frigging forever to submerge myself completely though, I’m such a wuss! But it was really damn nice to have the beach all for myself and just take in the view of the hazy dawn and beautiful sunrise.
And of course now I’m sad that the closest lake back home is a 15 minute car ride away and I’ve got no license, nor other alternatives.
Though come to think of it that’s probably for the best. The mosquitoes would be swarming.
Wow. I really feel like people are taught to embrace their privilege, everyone wants to keep saying in bold over and over, “your privilege isn’t bad, it’s not something to feel bad about”, and on and on so as not to hurt feelings and trample over people’s natural guilt/anger reaction. Let us never forget, though, that your privilege did indeed come about by bad things, bad rules, bad laws, bad teachings, bad ideals, bad people. It is okay to be told and to know how bad your privilege can be towards others and especially when you deny it and what it’s put the rest of us through in order to secure that privilege even though it isn’t first hand “your fault”. What was that inane quote going about a bit ago saying privilege is like having big feet or something? Just no. Your privileges(and all of ours) were brought about through oppression and wrong doings and wrong feelings as to what is “good” or acceptable or allowed and what is not. And privilege is not good, whether cis, white, male, neurological, etc… It was brought about by making others not in your position be or feel less than you.

yeah, i always found the phrase “your privilege isn’t a bad thing” to be an incredibly simplified turn of phrase. your privilege may not be YOUR FAULT, but it’s definitely bad for all the people who don’t have it.

Some damn good points being made here. As I am guilty of saying “Privilege isn’t a bad thing” myself, I want to also post an opposing argument. It’s something I think I may have downplayed and I need to change that.
